Hannelore Fischer is best known for her bold, gestural and colorful abstract paintings in acrylic on canvas that are inspired by nature. In her newer work from 2017 she uses her authentic contemporary pointillist style with loosely applied brush marks that together synthesize into shapes in bright colors.
Born and raised in Germany, she first made art in Munich where she joined the art group “Gruppe J’73” with mentor Fritz Baumgartner, a German-Austrian Modernist painter influenced by the Bauhaus Era. At age 28, she came to the USA, continued her career in graphic design and also worked as an illustrator.
From 1987 on she pursued a formal art education, starting at the Sacramento City College and then moved on to UC Davis in 1994. Her main focus was painting with Wayne Thiebaud and Squeak Carnwath, mural design with Malaquias Montoya, and ceramics with Annabeth Rosen. She also added classes in lithography, aquatint etching, loom weaving and glass blowing and earned her BFA in 1998 with highest honors. In 2004, she completed her Master in Studio Arts with emphasis on painting, at John F. Kennedy University at the Department of Arts & Consciousness, in Berkeley.
Subsequently she taught several Art & Design classes at the Napa Community College as well as her own series of “Art & Soul Journeys” as transformative art practice out of her studio in Oakland and Art Centers in the California Bay Area. She documented her own transformative painting process in “Walks In Nature” in which one of her larger abstract paintings “Both Worlds” is featured in stages. The video provides insight into her intuitive, visionary and explorative way of working.
Hannelore Fischer has exhibited her art in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Texas and has won numerous awards and recognitions. She currently lives in Mariposa, California where she creates her own unique nature impressions of the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite and the foothills. She paints in her new octagonal studio and is active in the local art scene. She is a member of the Mariposa Arts Council, the Sierra Artists Gallery, Mariposa/Yosemite Artists, Yosemite Sierra Artists, Bedford Gallery and Carnegie Center for the Arts.
